Webbworks - Members Gallery Listing
note: in the interest of expediency, we have converted the Member Gallery listing to an automatic process, which should update listings daily. This process should have the advantage of allowing Webbworks subscribers to effectively control their own entry without our involvement (with some caveats - listed below), as well as discouraging non-Webbworks subscribers from asking to be listed here (which happened with surprising frequency).

The process of getting your home page listed on the Webbworks Member Gallery is relatively simple:

  1. Become an Webbworks subscriber. A very important first step!

  2. Once you have an account, upload your Web pages to the "WebPage" directory on the user Web server "www.webbworks.com". More instructions on this procedure are available if you need them.

  3. Make sure that your main or "home" page is named "index.html"; this is the only file that will be linked from the Member Gallery.

  4. For the Description, add a title to your page using the TITLE tags, e.g. <TITLE>My Home Page</TITLE>. This information should be on its line in your HTML. We reserve the right to exclude descriptions that exceed common decency, so please play nice! You can say whatever you want on your own page, but this Gallery is a public space and so the description needs to be strictly G-rated and family-friendly.

  5. If your Web page is accessible, it will be indexed at the beginning of the next day automatically.
So basically, you don't need to do much different from just putting up your page on our server as normal. We hope you find this system much easier and more efficient for listing your personal pages with Webbworks!

FAQ

  • Why isn't my name spelled correctly in the Name field?
[or] I don't want my name listed with my account; can you remove it?

The information for the Name field is taken from our user database; if the name is incomplete or spelled incorrectly, or if you'd like your name to be unlisted, just send an email to our Customer Service department and ask that it be changed or removed.

  • Why doesn't the title of my page show up under the Description field? It shows up when I view the page with a Web browser.

Sometimes when you upload the page, you lose important formatting information such as line breaks, which are essential for us to quickly isolate the TITLE section of your page. Or the TITLE tags may be surrounded by other tags, such as HEAD or META tags, which can obscure it during the index procedure. So if your title isn't showing up but you know you have it listed on your page (in the HEAD section), here are a few things to try:

    1. Make sure you save the HTML file as plain text with line breaks, UNIX-style if possible. Some Macintosh Web page editors, for example, run all the text together in one line, where it's difficult to isolate the pieces we need.

    2. Make sure the TITLE section is on its own line in the HTML - just put a carriage return before and after that line to be sure.

  • I put up my Web pages, but even a day later my account doesn't show up in the list. What's wrong?

Make sure that your main page (or at least some page) is named "index.html"; anything else will be ignored during the indexing. Some people use "home.htm" or even "index.htm" by default; these will be skipped. Also, make sure that your Web pages are accessible from our server; if you can't reach them, then they shouldn't be indexed, either. If you've put up the pages but can't get to them via "http://www.webbworks.com/users/username/" (replacing 'username' with your userID in this example), try contacting Tech Support to find out the problem. Often it's a simple permission glitch that's easy to fix.
