Troubleshooting Trumpet Winsock
Trumpet Winsock Setup
1. Get the necessary software.
2. Installation
The first thing you should do before you begin is to edit your AUTOEXEC.BAT in your hard drives root directory. This can be accomplished using NOTEPAD in Windows. Just locate the "PATH" statement, put the cursor on it, and hit the END key. Just type "C:\WINSOCK;" and save the file. You will need to reboot your computer at this point for the changes to take place. Exit Windows and hold down CTRL-ALT- DELETE simultaneously. When your system comes back up, put the winsock disk in your A: drive (or your 3.5 drive). Type "RUNME". This will create all the necessary files on your hard drive in the C:\WINSOCK directory. Once this finishes, load windows with the command WIN /3 (if your not already in Windows at this point.)
Once in windows make sure the program manager is open. At this point you want to open your `communication' Icon or related Icon. (Netscape Personal Edition Icon for instance). Once that window is open, click on FILE then NEW in the program manager. It will ask you for either Program Item or Program Group. Make sure Program Item is bulleted. It will then ask you for program item properties. It is probably easier to `BROWSE' for the program we are looking for. The program you are looking for is `C:\WINSOCK \TCPMAN.EXE'. Click on C:\ --> Click on WINSOCK directory --> DOUBLE Click on TCPMAN.EXE. This will bring you back to `Program Item Properties'. Just click the OK button. A new icon will be created in the icon group you had previously opened. This is the program you will use to dial and access the internet.
At this point just double click on the TCPMAN icon to run it. When it comes up, click on DIALER portion of it. Choose "OTHER" and a new window will appear. Choose "SETUP.CMD" and click OK button.
It will ask you for the following:
PHONE NUMBER (509) 585-3648
- (the prefix "*70," disables call waiting)
USER NAME: username@webbworks.com(all lower case letters)
PASSWORD ******* (Include any capitol letters and/or numbers)
When this is completed, click on FILE then SETUP. Make sure PPP and SLIP are both blank. That is they don't have an "X" next to them.
Enter the following information:
IP0.0.0.0
NAMESERVER204.117.214.10(Primary) & 199.2.252.10 (Secondary)
DOMAIN SUFFIXwebbworks.com
MTU1500
TCP RWIN4380
TCPMSS1460
TCP RTO MAX60
GATEWAY209.120.35.3
PACKET VECTOR00
LOAD TIMEOUT5
PPP [X] (on)
VAN-JACOBSEN CSLIP COMPRESSION [_] (off)
Click on Internal PPP then choose correct port your modem is on (usually 2 or 1). Choose baud rate --> 19200 for slow I/O ports (16450) or up to 57600 for fast ones (16550). Click OK to exit setup. It will ask you to RESTART tcpman. Close program and then re-run it. At this point your ready to connect. Just click on DIALER then click on LOGIN. It should dial the phone and log you into our system. Once it says "Script Completed", "PPP Enabled", you are connected to the internet. If it fails to say this, or says "Script Aborted" and it appears you are not connecting correctly, read the FAQ below carefully then give Webbworks technical support a call if problem persists.
FAQ Section:
I followed your directions above implicitly but I still can't connect..
Well this happens from time to time usually due to more then one 'winsock.dll' being loaded onto your system, and conflicting with trumpet. Use a search tool such as File Manager in Windows (under FILE), or MSD under DOS, and serach for WINSOCK.DLL. If you have more then one WINSOCK.DLL on your system this could spell trouble.
To fix:
Simply add C:\WINSOCK first in your your PATH statement as outlined above.
I keep getting script aborted, and have trouble connecting most or all of the time. What am I doing wrong?
This would apparently be your "LOGIN.CMD". If yours isn't working, you might consider trying ours - this is a version fine-tuned specifically for Webbworks. Once your download is complete, you will need to copy it over your existing LOGIN.CMD file.
(EG. copy c:\programfiles\ie\login.cmd c:\winsock /v )
If the script aborts even before dialling, you may need to adjust your "$modeminit" or "$modemsetup" in the script you just downloaded from us. These 'strings' are in the 'user configuration' section of script (at the very top). Just change the section inside the double quotes with a modem initialization string for your specific modem.
I get lots of errors inside the Trumpet Winsock window during use...what is wrong?
We suggest you consult the

My trumpet winsock has expired. I thought this program was free..?
First, Trumpet Winsock is NOT free. It is considered 'shareware'. This means you may try the software but you may not continue to use it after an alotted time. Version 2.1F has a built in expiration limit. If you unzip it again you will refresh the expiration date but you will have to go through the setup procedures from the beginning. Version 2.0b does not have an expiration time limit, but Webbworks will not be held responsible for the illegal use of copyrighted software.
